Project Description
The brief was to design a three-bedroom house with a covered patio. Included in the brief was a study and a home office / studio.
The challenge was to design a house on a particularly exposed stand, while capitalising on the extra-ordinary 270-degree view of the golf course, Vaal River and nature trails, while still achieving maximum north exposure of all habitable rooms, and maintain some family privacy.
The footprint selected comprised of a series of sheds, linked from north to south / east to west with linear glass passages and separated by courtyards.
The courtyards allow for northern exposure and cross ventilation as well as usable, protected and private outdoor space.
The northern most wing, which accommodates the open plan kitchen, living and dining areas, spills out onto a patio area with a narrow swimming pool and beautiful garden, accessed by the main bedroom that is house in the western wing.
Facades are layered with the addition of functional timber and steel pergolas to add summer shading and fractured light shadows.

This little house, has a beautiful South View, But the layout capitalises on the North sun, Geo location and Sun studies ensures that the living room will be warm and comfortable.
The layout and design is Universally inclusive, allowing ample space for walkers, or wheel chairs. The bathroom is modern, but fully accessible, and easy to use. All fittings are correctly positioned t allow for independence of the beloved family member.
The large patio allows for outside living, and entertainment.
